Leaches can suck your blood and you won't even know it is happening. They do this by injecting a small dose of anesthetic as they attach themselves to your skin, penetrate into your blood vessels, then suck out your blood. How clever of them!
 
In contrast, our IRS sucks our blood without benefit of anesthetic, thus irritating us. But we don't care, because it's for the common good.
